๐ชฝ Heavenly Beings
The Bible reveals a rich spiritual realm filled with heavenly and spiritual beings created by God. These include ordered ranks of angels who serve Him as messengers, worshipers, warriors, and guardians, as well as adversarial spiritual forces that oppose God and His people. Descriptions are drawn directly from Scripture. The following sections detail each category with as much biblical information as is provided in the text.
Seraphim
Seraphim are heavenly beings who attend the throne of God in continual worship. They have six wings each and proclaim the holiness of the Lord Almighty. One seraph purified the prophet Isaiah with a live coal from the altar.
โHoly, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of His glory.โ"
Cherubim
Cherubim are powerful guardian beings often positioned near the presence of God. They guarded the entrance to the Garden of Eden after the fall of humanity. In visions, cherubim are described with multiple faces, wings, and associated with the glory of God. They are closely related to (and in some passages identified with) the living creatures seen in prophetic visions.
Further detailed visions of cherubim appear in Ezekiel chapters 1 and 10, where they are explicitly identified as the living creatures surrounding Godโs throne.
Four Living Creatures
The four living creatures (also called living beings) surround the throne of God in heaven. They are full of eyes, each with a different face (lion, ox, man, eagle), six wings, and they ceaselessly worship God day and night, declaring His holiness. These appear to be the same or closely identified with the cherubim described elsewhere.
โโHoly, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,โ
who was, and is, and is to come.โ"
Angels (in General)
Angels are heavenly beings who serve as ministering spirits. They are sent by God to assist those who will inherit salvation. They often appear in human form, act as messengers, protectors, and worshipers. The Bible frequently describes them as numerous and organised under Godโs command.
Archangels and Named Angels
Archangels hold high rank among the heavenly host. The Bible names two: Michael, who contends with evil forces and leads the angelic armies, and Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God and delivers important messages.

Spiritual Ranks, Thrones, Powers, Rulers, and Authorities
The Bible speaks of organised spiritual ranks in the heavenly realms, including thrones, powers, rulers, and authorities. These were created by and for Jesus. Some are referenced in the context of spiritual warfare as forces that believers contend against.
Satan and Fallen Angels (Demons)
Satan (also called the devil, the dragon, and the ancient serpent) is a fallen heavenly being who opposes God. He was cast out of heaven along with his angels (demons). Scripture describes his original beauty and his rebellion, as well as his ultimate defeat.
Evil Spirits (Forces)
Also called unclean spirits or evil spirits, are spiritual beings under the influence of Satan. They afflict people, oppose the work of God, and are subject to the authority of Jesus. They are cast out by His name and power.
The Bible portrays them as numerous and active in the spiritual realm, though specific physical descriptions are limited compared to angels.
Numerous accounts in the Gospels describe Jesus and His followers casting out demons, confirming their existence as real spiritual beings under Satanโs influence.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God โ He is not created but eternal, indwells believers, convicts the world of sin, and empowers the Church.
All descriptions above are limited to what is explicitly revealed in the Bible. The heavenly realm is vast, and believers are encouraged to focus on worshiping God rather than speculating beyond Scripture.
